Îris, The Messenger of the Gods

Ancient Greek Ἶρις (Îristhe messenger of the gods; a rainbow; the iris (of the eye); the flower)

I took these photographs in Coleraine today. The colours are so vibrant and somehow there is a fragility about...almost translucent. I not sure what the message was this afternoon but it was probably saying, 'stop, pay attention, be in the moment.'

I remember a poem by Mary Oliver which mentioned a blue iris:

“Praying"

It doesn’t have to be
the blue iris, it could be
weeds in a vacant lot, or a few
small stones; just
pay attention, then patch

a few words together and don’t try
to make them elaborate, this isn’t
a contest but the doorway

into thanks, and a silence in which
another voice may speak.
